Sacrificial Zinc Anodes

Galvanic Corrosion Protection — Zinc Pencil Anodes

Sacrificial zinc anodes protect metals from galvanic corrosion across a wide range of applications — from heat exchangers and pipelines to boat hulls and engine cooling systems. The replaceable zinc anode corrodes in place of the protected metal, extending the service life of your equipment.

Applications

Used in heat exchangers, pumps, tanks, pipelines, engines, refineries, water heaters, boat hulls, and above- or below-ground storage tanks.

Rod Lengths

Available from 1" to 14" in length to suit a variety of installation requirements.

Rod Diameters

Available from 1/4" to 1" in diameter. For sizes larger than 1" NPT, use 1" parts with a reducing bushing.

Replaceable zinc anode design — replacement anodes sold separately, no need to purchase the entire plug assembly. In-stock items ship within 24 hours.

How Zinc Anodes Work

Heat exchangers — often made of copper alloy — are prone to galvanic corrosion. Zinc Anode Header Plugs are commonly installed to prevent this, and are easily replaceable. It's advisable to check internal anodes annually if your equipment has them.

When two different metals are connected and exposed to seawater, they generate electrical current that leads to corrosion. Sacrificial anodes counter this by introducing a third metal that corrodes faster — sacrificing itself to protect the other two metals in the circuit.
